Legal cannabis has been growing and with it their incredibly rigid and highly regulated state tracking systems. States have recognized the need for robust traceability systems to ensure public safety, prevent diversion, and maintain regulatory compliance. In reality, they accomplish nearly none of these and just plague operators with the requirement to push data to this system in the format and workflow they demand. These data limitations are at the root of much of cannabis system inefficiencies, but are unfortunate reality to cannabis regulatory compliance.
These systems allows regulators to trace cannabis products from seed-to-sale, providing real-time visibility into the supply chain. The system uses unique identifiers, barcode scanning, and comprehensive reporting to monitor cannabis movement and maintain transparency.
Various states have implemented traceability systems to monitor the movement of cannabis from cultivation to sale. Here is an outline of the traceability systems in place in each legal cannabis state.
